The spring monitoring by our U3A Earth and Sea class was carried out on 26/9/08. Seagrass cover was approximately double that found in July. This new growth was in very good condition. The extensive large halimeda mounds present in recent months were almost totally absent in the transect area. There were now large aggregations of Hydroclathrus sp in the general area and also smaller occurrences of this species within some quadrats. The large excavation reported near the inner end of transect 2 over the last year is still there. Text: Dr. Don Kinsey

Bamfield, Canada: 31 August - 05 September 2008

ISBW8 is being held at Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre on Vancouver Island, Canada.  This morning we had a field trip to a few seagrass meadows around Bamfield. It was freezing!!! Saw some Zostera marina and Phyllospadix. We had hoped to see some killer whales - but no luck, though we did get to see a bear when we were hiking over to one of the locations.
