Sunrise and the Team is back on the shores, this time at Cyrene Reefs! Siti explained how monitoring is done. She also explained how monitoring helps us better understand the cycles in seagrass growth, and indirectly also understand the general health of the shores. It's amazing to have this rich seagrass meadow right next to a major shipping lane and the industrial installations on Pulau Bukom in the background. Text: Team Seagrass-Singapore. 4am and intrepid TeamSeagrass members were gathered to monitor at Pulau Semakau. The team was rather lean but eager to see this vast seagrass meadows in the wee hours of the morning. Collin our seahorse specialist, was also with us to look for seahorses in the seagrass meadows, but alas, the seine net didn't work too well as the meadows were full of hard corals that snagged the net. Sarina Inlet, Mackay (Qld, Australia): 01 August 2008
There was considerable seagrass growth in some areas close to the transects. When the site was established at Sarina, some 3 years ago, the whole area was virtually flat, and ran dry once the tide had dropped. Now the "melon holes" of varying sizes hold the water throughout low tide and shallow streams criss cross the area. Text: Noel Kane
