Len McKenzie and Rudi Yoshida (SW HQ) visited the Whitsunday region to conduct monitoring and set up two new Seagrass-Watch sites as part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and Marine & Tropical Research Facility funded Reef Plan MMP (RWQPP). The team visited Hamilton Is on the 22-24 October to scout for suitable sites, thoroughly searching Catseye Bay. Suitable meadows were found at the western and eastern ends of the bay. While searching, two more species were located (Zostera capricorni and Cymodocea rotundata), bringing the total number of seagrass species in the bay to nine. Thalassodendron ciliatum was also found in the far eastern corner of the bay.

With help from QPWS (Kim Hodgon, Dave Harper and Lauren Buckley) and volunteers (Heather Marshall, Kerry Harrison, Dell Williams and John Williams), the Pioneer Bay sites, PI2, PI3 (RWQPP sites) and PI4 were monitored. The seagrass was abundant and so were the dugong grazing trails - particularly at PI3. The meadows also appear to be changing from Halodule uninervis dominated to Zostera capricorni dominated.

Chek Jawa (Singapore) : 28 October 2007
The Team got completely wet this monitoring trip. Although the day started out fine and bright, it started pouring as soon as we left Changi. We huddled at Ubin Jetty until we THOUGHT the rain had eased. But as soon as we actually started monitoring, the heavens opened up! Text: Team Seagrass-Singapore. TeamSeagrass Website Click here . Cyrene Reef (Singapore) : 26 October 2007
TeamSeagrass were back on their most favourite shore! Cyrene is a submerged reef that lies just opposite the container port and is flanked by Pulau Bukom and Jurong Island. And yet, it has such marvellously rich habitats. The team quickly got started on monitoring to catch the tide and the Enhalus acoroides were blooming! The vast seagrass meadows were dotted with tiny white male flowers. All too soon, the tide turned and the sun set. Text: Team Seagrass-Singapore. TeamSeagrass Website Click here
